Self-imposed RP rules

#1 Post by Asraline » Tue Sep 15, 2015 7:13 am

Hello, people! Do you have any self-imposed rules to play your character? If so, which?

For example, mines are:
-No scalping, ever. Specially not in the nibbler hut.
-Every nibbler out of the hut must be killed on sight.
-Pay literate people to write IC mail at one gold coin minium. If a NPC is hired, write the mail and donate your coins afterwards.
-Do not leave Arborean ground without a good reason.
-Speak with contractions, turning the 'ou' in 'you' as 'e' and the eliminating g in -ing words (i.e. You are very caring./Ye're very carin'.)
-Keep metal armours stored unless necessary.
-Mobs in caves such as wargs, moles or minecrawlers can only be defeated in ranged combat. Melee might cause Asraline to panic.

Yeah me too

- I roll a tshahark with 50 strength
- only use a spear in both hands
- only grunt and kill stuff
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

Hmm...I guess there are more I instinctively follow but here are some:

- avoid scalping
- allow changes in your reputation to happen
- allow your deity status to change
- do not actively seek to change your deity/reputation without a reason even if it hurts
- playing an elven character, favour elves and elven things
- adjust your behaviour depending on magicstatus
- come up with short and long term effects magic has on your character and act on them even if any of it does little sense to others or becomes ever known
- keep ties to your character's past, never cut yourself off completely

I almost forgot one of the more important ones!

- never "explain away" your character or needlessly reveal her past or reasons for this or that action. That is, avoid drama for drama's sake even if it means you miss out on some of the fun. Allow your character to live and breathe and develop naturally.
- think of normal things for your character to do, like hobbies and such, that do not involve creating mountains of orpses or sitting alone somewhere grinding magic. Both are very necessary parts of this game so some balance is needed here.

Mmm, interesting...

Delia, do you follow all these rules for your elven character only or there are some which apply for all?

I guess I'd have different rules for a different character as some which I listed are quite character specific. Such as magic use. I only have one character though.

Theoretically speaking I would still stress race and nationality to a degree. I might skip the no skalping thing. How I would handle gods might change If my character were to be especially devout. Still, leaving the chance for a chance convert is fun.

Delia once heard the call of Asral but I chickened out as a player. I truly regret it to this day. It could have been interesting, so I have to apologize for that :)

I was merely asking because the last rules you posted sounded more like general principles than character-specific to me. But it can just be my impression as a fanatic storyteller, haha!

And no need to apologize for the Asralite thing. More mead for us in the Halls.

Well, anyone else wanting to share?
