This is an old thread, but I wanted to comment on one thing @Delia wrote:

It could all be tied to a maxed meditate skill, still.
No idea if such ideas would fit to shaolins though.

Also, they could have access to certain and very low kind of spell-like effects, at least those that could fit to concepts of inner balance (and as a result being "able to do amazing" or unique things)

There is always chi that is tied to meditation and Shao's have a thing or two only for them to use there. Very rare though among the shaos.
