Alright, so maybe I'm just amazingly stupid or missing something. But I'm having quite a bit of trouble picking roses. What I've been trying to do is 'pick rose from bush' but whenever I do it informs me of the course I might want to take if the bush is a door and the rose is a lock. Am I doing it wrong? Can roses be picked? Is 'pick' even the right command?

I'm afraid you can't simply pick roses from the bushes you're looking at.

If you want flowers, you can try "search herbs." Many pretty flowers, even used for decorating, are considered herbs in the world of the game.
Or, of course, you can try the Elvandar flower merchant.

There is also a place where you can 'pick flowers' and get a bouquet, but it is rather hard to find if you do not know what you are looking for.
There are very few personal problems that cannot be solved by a suitable application of high explosives.
