Yeah, the grappling was impressive. Anytime you see a display of grappling like that in a fight, it is very entertaining.

Can't wait to see him against someone like Florian. He wants tough fights, he keeps getting tougher fights, and he just keeps winning. In a few years, I think his skill level will far surpass his brothers.

Even his ability to say swear words 2x more than regular words in a sentence and still convey a message ;)

Oh, at the post fight interviews Nate and Nick had to be escorted out, they were apparently swearing at no one but everyone very aggressively.

Bump Bump Bump................

In case some of you have no idea what were were rambling about on this thread, then you should check out CBS Saturday Night.

Although Gary Shaw and EliteXC are not very good reps for the sport, you can get a taste of it this weekend.

Check out the Bearded Wonder vs The Purple Cape of Destiny (maybe someone will understand what I am talking about)

Anyways, just a reminder to those who like MMA, and for those curious about it, a note to advise them to watch this very shotty example of a great sport.

Yeah Elite XC falls somewhere between the WWE and the UFC or WEC. Fun to watch, but I get the feeling the pros in the UFC or WEC would wipe the floor with those Elite fighters 9 times out of 10.

EliteXC has a few legit fighters though.

Personally I would say Jake Shields could hang in the UFC. Antonio Silva probably could as well.

Robbie Lawler and Nick Diaz are both former UFC fighters. They could easily go back to the organization if they wanted to. They are very skilled.

Arlovski is an Affliction free agent, but hes fighting on this card. Should be entertaining. He is a former UFC heavyweight champ.

Seems that Affliction and EliteXC have decided to co-host some events, so I expect to see the EliteXC talent pool swamped now, we at least the Heavyweight division. Affliction probably has 50 percent or more of the top heavyweights in the world.

Hah, 14 seconds and Kimbo got KTFO'd by some relatively unknown guy with flaming pink hair.

All the casual fans are in shock. For anyone that knows anything about MMA, what a relief.

yeah really, it happened finally. The most suprising thing was the apparent lack of power behind the punch that knocked him down (pink hair guy was reeling backwards and on one leg, hardly a power stance). Also, how he just folded and immediately stopped defending himself while on the ground. What do you think poZengo, was it rigged? Is Kimbo laughing all the way to the bank after that fight?

The fight was "semi-rigged" but not how you are thinking.

Kimbo taking a dive would be the worst thing he could do for his career.
He already made 500,00 dollars just to show up to fight and if he won, would have made an extra 100,000 dollars win bonus.

Reasons I say Kimbo did not take a dive.
1) Worst thing for his career loosing to an unknown fighter.
2) Watch the fight again, $kala aka Jared Shaw is in the background screaming his head off at the referee to stand them back up, for the little rabbit punch to the back of the head. He was throwing an absolute fit. It was highly amusing, he saw his billion dollar investment disappear right in front of his eyes.
3) Seth Petruzzeli admits that Jared Shaw and the promoters offered him and undisclosed but large amount of $ to keep the fight standing and not take it to the ground. They were banking on Kimbo knocking him out, and they knew if it went to the ground, Kimbo would be subbed or ground and pounded out.
4)It was Kimbo's hometown. No way he would take a dive there.
That man has way to much pride.

They threw Kimbo in there with a can. Someone they thought he could knock out easily. Kimbo outweighed him by a lot. Lots of fighters stepped up to take Ken Shamrocks place, but they wouldn't let them fight (like Frank Shamrock) knowing that they would destroy Kimbo. They picked the one they thought Kimbo could easily take out. Seth threw an upwards jab on one foot and caught Kimbo right on the button. He probably couldn't ever do it again if his life depended on it, but Saturday Night was his night.

He was way over hyped. He is a mediocre (at best) fighter. EliteXC saw $ from marketing him though, and now their company has nothing to stand on.

Now since the Kimbo train has derailed, we get to see fights that actually make sense. Like Kimbo vs Roy Nelson, or Kimbo vs Brett Rogers.

Well, yeah. Most everyone is happy the Kimbo-hype era is over. I personnally found it disgusting that he would headline on a card that included Arlovski. That said, it should be noted that Seth Petruzelli is not the bum everyone is making him out to be now. He has been around a while now(some should remember him from season 2 of TUF) and I remember about a year ago he had a good fight with Matt Hamill where he showed a lot of heart before losing a decision.

The way the story is being told now is that Kimbo ended up fighting a nobody replacement for Shamrock. This will give old, out of touch sports writers more ammo to say that "MMA is not a sport, its a bar fight where any bum can get in there and win".

The truth, as I see it anyways, is that Shamrock was a very old, punch drunk and way over the hill fighter with name recognition hand picked for Kimbo to knock out. What Kimbo ended up with was Seth Petruzelli, a journeyman but professional MMA fighter. The moral of the story should be that, despite a mega hype machine behind him, a tough amateur fighter could not stay in the ring with an actual professional fighter for longer than 15 seconds. Even one he outweighed by 30lbs.

Sidenotes:

-Despite the KO loss, to a top 5 heavyweight mind you, Roy Nelson is in my mind still a very good heavyweight and better than anyone else EliteXC has in that division.
-Am actually looking forward to the Carano/Cyborg fight. I wish Gina was marketed a bit more aggressively than she has been. I mean, she is a top athlete in her sport who has exciting fights and she is HOT! Seriously, what kind of shitty agent does she have that says... "Sorry, Gina. All i can get you is a spot on American Gladiators".
-Did anyone think that Ninja Rua looked out of shape and maybe even hurt? Props to Radach for a good fight but seriously Ninja did not look at all like himself.

I was not calling Petrezulli a bum, I just called him almost unknown.

TUF 2 was as much exposure as he has had.

I do remember him putting up a good fight while it lasted against Bob Sapp in K-1 before Seth hyper-extended his elbow.

Rua looked horribly out of shape. He wasn't himself, and his game plan wasn't the best. Benji was impressive either way though.

Roy Nelson - What was up with that stand up when he was dominating on the ground? He was aggressive and actively looking for subs. The ref should have let them be. I am sure AA would have held off until the end of the round, or wiggled his way out of it.

Gina - *MOAN* She couldn't make weight again the first attempt, and had to get naked at the weigh ins.

Jake Shields - Really needs to work on his stand up.

Daley - Really needs to work on his ground game.

I just recently saw a chess boxing match for the first time. I wonder how popular is this in Europe really? And does anyone in the states know of a place where these take place? I figure some university somewhere has started a club.

Unfortunately I do not think it is very big, but it is also quite new. I think it's mostly in Germany but I heard other places might start something too. But okay, I only have "internet knowledge" about it.
