Darkelven raids

If it's no bug or an idea, but it's still MUD-related, it goes here.

Darkelven raids

#1 Post by Loreen » Sun Feb 14, 2010 4:30 pm

Those raids are surely a nice touch to the game, but do you really think 19!!! darkelves are ok?

Considering there are only 21 players on including the wizards, evil doers, and younger/non-combat characters...I would have to agree with you there.

Yeah a couple waves of 3 are cool. But this was kind of ridiculous.

I don't know about everyone else but I've been experiencing crippling lag ever since it happened.

Me too. I think I heard someone mention lagging over the newbie channel as well.

Being an "Uber Tank" Isn't really hard. If you can tank 4 things you can tank 60 things. But if you are tanking 60 things make sure you are in it for the long haul.

One day I would like to try fighting four thurse with a shield. Something tells me I would be hurt.

I think part of the situation was not so much a matter of tanking is that there would be two darkelves standing outside of the fort. You go in and attack them and the other 17 come rushing out so people in the party who are not "uber tanks" as you all put it were getting the stuffing beaten out of them.

Also here is where I like to add that I don't know many people uber tank or not who don't feel those steel crossbow bolts (Or poisoned weapons). They're Nasty. With a capital N. Which is why I want to know why our watch towers don't have them....

But to return to the true point of the thread, 19 was a bit of a severe amount unless the world is supposed to be changing to the extend that there will be NPC based attempts to destroy a guild. It caused a situation to me where things were just sort of not fun anymore, a situation were you have people dying for the second or third time in the span of a few hours.

A situation that stacks deaths like that could cause some people especially someone who they put alot of time into their character to become frustrated and not want to spend time grinding their stats back up. Sometimes a situation like that will cause people to abandon a character for a period of time because they just don't want to deal with it then. An action that weakens their guild and an IC commitments they've made.

I wholeheartedly agree with PO Arwenth on that last part of her posting.

I have to agree with poArwenth on this.

In the scale of Geas, a raid of 19 darkelves is extremely large.

A team of 10 players seems to be considered huge when undertaking a large task. (Raiding a city, closing a portal)

The way I see it, a team of nineteen is all out war in this scale, not a raid. When you only have 22 players on at the time (as poLoreen said, including evils, wizzies, and non-combatants) it is pretty mind boggling.

I just recently got Damanta to a point where I was getting quite proud of his progress. Now I have to flee from hobgoblins. :( So yes I am making this point because I was set back on my character, but that was many hours of training to get to that point. It just makes me think of what else I could have been doing during that time. :P

I love Geas, and I'll take the time to train back up. However, from my experience in other MUDs, an event like this would have been enough to get some people to stop playing entirely.

Yeah, me neither. :)

Can you actually interact with these NPCs, or do they just kill everything in sight?

They just run to their target destination and start killing whoever is there or comes there.

There is(or should be atleast) an IC solution to these raids, one which has been left unsolved for ages now. Granted...possibly stopping the raids requires quite bit of manpower. Still...it is there and I am quite pleased people were reminded about this
