Do the rest of you consider certain specials "off-limits" for spars?
Clawing, biting and tearing off one's hair. These things should really not be used in a spar. Also, throwing eggs or dirt is a clear no no, as is spitting into the eyes of your opponent. Last but not least, pulling at the ear - or even worse, biting an ear off - is a clear violation of spar rules. (In law-abiding areas that is)
Not everyone wants to be the next Mike Tyson.
On a related note, one question ... can "knee" be used in spar on male tshaharks to any effect?
Come to think about tshaharks, if two tshaharks spar then it is extremely unfair if one of them starts to pull at the tail of the other tshahark. That will just lead to endlessly running around in little circles.
Some say arrows can kill in stunmode, but I am willing to try it to prove that it is false.
I have no idea if they do, and I think a long time ago they did. Perhaps they still do.
Anyway, I guess one reasoning for stunmode not working nicely with missile is that your character can control the impact of a (melee/unarmed) blow to a certain degree. Like using the "blunt side of a sword", or gently batting the head of a target with a crude club, without breaking him in two pieces.
But it would be somewhat strange to talk to an arrow like this: "Sir Arrow, please would you slow down just a little bit and not rip through the throat of my opponent? I do not intend to kill him."
Sir Arrow agrees thoughtfully. Right before hitting, Sir Arrow considers just "stun"ning the target, slowing down, and sending the opponent into a deep, long slumber.
Best race: halflings.
