Guild...

#1 Post by Fusha » Fri Dec 16, 2011 4:41 am

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I didn't know if I would get immediately assaulted in-game. How do I obtain info on the Rogue's Guild? I think if I just go around asking anyone I'll probably get killed, right?

Thanks!

You'd be correct on that. If you're dead-set on joining them, perk up your ears and keep them on the ground. There's always a few bits and pieces of information dropping down there eventually. Patience and perseverance.

Haha, yes, it might not be best to directly ask people about it, cause they might get suspicious. ;) Although some of us are more accepting of alternative lifestyles than others. You pretty much just have to get noticed by the right people. And there are ways to contact the right people in game, but it will take some exploring.

Joining them as a newbie on his first character is also a bad idea.

Okay, maybe you won't want to answer this but how might I go about learning backstab (or cutthroat) without joining the rogues guild? does another teach it?

You can join on your first char, but I'd give yourself time to learn the game first. It's a good idea to stay incognito for as long as possible, because once people find out you're a Rogue you'll have a much harder time. It's generally easier to stay below the radar if you're familiar with the way the game works and the world and its quirks. I would just try working on some skills necessary to thievery like sneak and hide, pick lock, etc. to give yourself an advantage if you do join the guild. I do think that backstab is only learnable by joining the Rogues, and I'm not sure if cutthroat is still available or not.

cutthroat is not a learnable skill anymore. and those that already have it cannot use it.

Was hit eyes unlearnable as well? Atleast I haven't seen it used though that does not necessarily mean anything ;)

Those of us lucky enough to learn backstab by simply watching before the change can still use it, but now it's only learnable from a specific guild's trainer. Probably the Rogues, but you can't be sure

I am not sure if this backstab information should be posted on this public forum for all to see. If it is to be learned by a specific guild trainer, then let that information be learned by person IC.

Given that it was really common knowledge that quite many of the skills were learnable by watching I do not see any reason for any OOC cloak & dagger business about it. Actually, I would really like to know once and for all how are all the skills changed. If not for anything else it would remove unnecessary speculation and any nonsense that usually arises from such speculations.

I myself preferred the old way to learn skills by watching.

Not saying the new way is bad per se. But it had some side effects.

I remember an ex-PO Shaolin stating that now suddenly everyone can use meditate and this very effectively (because it is fairly easy to learn nowadays, compared to ancient times). And this is kind of true. It was much harder to learn certain skills in the past.

I agree with PO Blizt insofar that I don't think one should speculate on IC knowledge on an OOC forum, but then again PO Delia is also correct. I think my oldest character even knows about hiteyes just by watching some old "hiteyes users". :)

Perhaps a future revision of the skill system could take up suggestions like that (what old players liked in the old skill system) and even add new elements (synergistic effects from one skill to another, so that i.e. a master of the spear could fight with a polearm somewhat efficiently even if he'd have no knowledge of it, as opposed to someone who is totally incompetent with both a spear or polearm). And of course to pick up the old idea of really "mastering" a specific skill - something that would take a lot of time, and would yield only a slight bonus, but would be immensely hard to achieve. Something like this did exist in the old Might and Magic saga (computer game), where you had to find a real master, in order to further advance in that skill (and gain extra benefits from that, though in that game those benefits were of course overpowered - it was a hack and slay game after all.)

The cityboards and courtcases are usually a good source to start to find information on people that have commited certain crimes or are under the suspicion of having done so. That way you can get a hint on who might be there with the information you want.
