If it's no bug or an idea, but it's still MUD-related, it goes here.

I think now that there are atleast a couple of interested characters out there, it would be nice to have some information about the joining requirements as they are quite dissimilar when compared to other guilds. Having the information visible somewhere, such as in this thread would eliminate unnecessary ooc-chatter and possible player frustration as one requires bit more planning for a mage character.
I was not around when the exact specs were put in place and cannot recall what was said to me about them but atleast quite bit of INT is required, so joining is out of the question for a newbie/low-level characters.
Well, just a thought as I could appreciate having more apprentices in the guild. Perhaps having one for Delia as well

Maybe mastery of a couple of core skills like a few languages, astronomy and whatever other skills might be useful.

From what I have understood, there are three requirements (though I am uncertain on how high those are):
1. A high int.
2. High mental stats in comparison to physical ones.
3. A certain knowledge of magic already. (Through scribes or alchemists.)
I may be wrong, of course.

Like, having higher INT and WIS compared to STR and AGI?
Also, I've been curious, do relative stats depend upon your race? I.e. strong strength for a halfling would only be weak strength for a tshahark? Or would the same rank in a stat be equal across all races?

It's relative to the race. Immortal strength for a halfling might only be tough strength for a tshahark.

If my understanding is correct, then...

Yes.
Yes.

No. Scribes are one way - there is at least one other

I think it is could be possible to be taken as an apprentice if you just meet the basic requirements - that is no previous guild memberships or knowledge required. If this is indeed possible it is only more challenging.

Two observations for reaching the requirements...
Do the quests! Atleast as many as possible even if it might seem silly. The quests can be problematic RP-wise but it is a mechanism still in place. Not many ways around that unless you want to grind skills for stats.
If you have magic, use it! This part requires heavy solitary grinding, no ways around it. If you do not do this you will never reach the requirements.
That is, the final requirement is to be able to learn and use the skill allowing magic without external mediums. Before the change this was seen from "magicstatus" where your magical rank rose slowly with your experience and research. I am quite unsure how it works now.

I have created another page in the Covenant Section of the Geas wiki. It will be
used to discuss anything related to getting ready to meet the requirements in
order to join. If you wish access to this page, then please send a pm to Delia or
me.
