Roleplay Question - the difference between skinning / scalpi

#1 Post by lanyara » Mon Dec 09, 2013 12:10 pm

Ok... can one of you explain to me...

What is the difference between:

a) Someone skinning a goblin.

and

b) someone collecting 100 scalps of thurses.

I'd argue that the net effect would seem pretty same, exvept that if you have 100 scalps of thurses, you have a lot more skin on your hand ...
Best race: halflings.

scalping is a socially accepted practice in Elvandar, skinning a humanoid being is not.

back in the "wild west" when people would collect scalps, sure it was gross but they needed some way to show the people who gave money for scalps they did the deed.

In the wild west if you skinned someone, they would definitely think there is something wrong with you.

having said all that, I am not saying that your character shouldn't find scalping gross, if you think your character should think that it is gross, then you should. If your character isn't a pansy or an elf that has lived in Elvandar for forever, then you should probably be okay with it or used to the practice.

It might make sense to think of it as functionally illogical--no, it doesn't make sense, it's accepted in society because that society isn't actually rational?

I mean, it's a bunch of elves. They're crazy. And more mean than they let on.

Well if we're trusting general society here, most of them don't mind having murderer devil worshipping priests living in their city! That sounds highly illogical

The ingame difference basically is that one isn't accepted by society (skinning of humanoids) while the other is in certain situations (scalping).
Just try handing in scalps of humans or elves or other non-hunted humanoids and you'll see how the elf in Elvandar reacts!
