Immersion

If it's no bug or an idea, but it's still MUD-related, it goes here.

Immersion

#1 Post by Asraline » Wed Oct 12, 2016 10:48 am

After looking through some Skyrim stuff, I wondered this.

Which details make your Geas experience feel more immersive? Which put you off? And if what puts you off has something to do with the system, how could it be improved?

OOC speech is the number one issue for me.

There are certain aspects of the game that are very difficult to explain/convey without breaking character, but I feel like we very easily lean on OOC speech to handle topics that can be perfectly explained IC. In fact, thinking on how to convey mechanics IC is immersive by itself. Some of my most memorable interactions in the game revolved around figuring out how to explain/physicalize the magic system mechanics in IC terms (this has been the bulk of my "mage" RP moments).

Please, resort to OOC only after you've exhausted the IC venues! Just think about them as opportunities to generate interesting stories and add color to character interactions. And if you do have to break character for more than a line or two, please go to the ooc area, because you are breaking the immersion of third parties and passerbys as well.

What ferannifer said, definitely. RP should be the majority way of tackling issues in an RP game :)

Also seeing modern slang used ICly :P

Okay, so OOC and IC trasvase is usually what males the clash happen. Any other notes?

For example, to me and some other players it feels more immersive when there are no objects scattered around the inventory. This means that tackling inventory management helps a ton for us to feel at ease in the character.

I like room emotes and finding things to look at. Being able to manipulate your surroundings some way is always great.

Some areas have 'listen' and 'smell' enabled which is very cool. I think it should be standard everywhere.
