Would any wizard or perhaps someone with a good explanation explain why the value of scalps has changed so much recently? It doesn't bother me much, but I was curious.

If it went down, probably because it was a bit too easy to get rich selling the equipment and scalps of dead things.

it didn't go down per se, things are just worth alot different values.
i still think troll scalps should be one gold, those things are hard to get.

If troll scalps were one gold coin a piece all shaolins would be millionaires if they choosed to, troll -> one of the easiest monsters in the game to kill(atleast for shaos)

meh, if you feel like tackle locking a troll for a few hours before it dies is worth a gold, by all means delia, be millionaires.

Actually it is around one minute, give or take. Sure if it regenerates indefinitely it can be a pain.
