Heavy Armours
I would like to make heavy armours more attractive and thus I want to find out the primary reason why people don't use them. So please vote (or add a post if there's a voting option missing). Please note that you can pick 3 options.

Re: Heavy Armours
My char never even considered to wear heavy armours, or even medium ones
because they weren't suitable for his fighing style. These days he couldn't wear
them due to him trying to become a mage.

Whenever I try to use the poll I get the following message:

And yes, I only clicked on 3 of the choices.

Try again now. I had to modify the template .html code, but for me it worked now.Loreen wrote:Whenever I try to use the poll I get the following message:

Re: Heavy Armours
Works now.
My reasons for not using heavy armours(currently) are quite same as Krelji's. I do recall however, that during Legion times I used heavy armours sparingly because the overall benefits from using medium armours were better. You could kill stuff a bit faster and you didn't have to recover as much afterwards. Sure you got wounded more but while recovering fatigue, recovering health at the same time was not that big of an issue.

Re: Heavy Armours
For me it is mostly because of no flickup. When monsters with two handed weapons score a critical hit , and you are then on the ground as a result, and can't flickup, then it is quite likely that you usually die quickly due to the bleeding (and monsters scoring hits again in that down-time). I don't really have a solution to that, but perhaps a push-up command might be a compromise (no fail using it, but char exhausts when trying this). However usually the extra protection you get from heavy armour does not seem to be worth it when you lose the 'flickup' ability. (This might also be because of two handed weapons seemingly being more effective than wielding weapons one handed, I dont really remember too many monsters being very deadly with one-handed weapons alone, except for i.e. trolls)
Another minor thing is that I think I would like to be able to buy a full battle suit (suit of armour), or in other words armours where I dont have to combine much anymore at all. Would be nice if one could buy the "strongest armour" and not really need to add much to it anymore. I.e. I wouldn't know if there are full coats available - could cost a lof of coins, but at least you would know you would have the best or strongest non-unique armour available. Would be cool to i.e. buy something for 20 or 30 gold coins but then know that it is a really great piece of armour.

Re: Heavy Armours
Flickup, too slow in combat, and walking at a snails pace.
Not being able to flickup is -deadly- in many situations. Being slow in combat also makes learning skills difficult, makes pvp more difficult, also makes battles longer making you more tired over time. Not being able to move quickly is another downfall as you can't chase anyone who is in light leathers. I can run in leather from Virle to the ogre cauldron and only be somewhat alert, but in heavier armours ill need to take a breath if i moved as fast which makes you walk slowly.

Re: Heavy Armours
I would really like to try fighting in full heavy armours, but like others said, not being able to flick up is bad. I don't really mind about having to walk more slowly, but being slow in combat would be crappy.

For me it's the lack of protection they provide. Usually they just aren't worth it.

Re: Heavy Armours
No flickup's not a big deal for me, I don't use it very often if at all, and I'll probably bleed to death more than once for that philosophy. My biggest problems are: Not enough of them to be useful, they're too heavy to walk around in, and you pretty much spend the fight taking hit after hit before finally swinging once and missing. And when you realize you can't win, you're exhausted and can't even run away.

Re: Heavy Armours
For me it's a combination of things, first of all, Arwenth has never had any IC reason to wear armour heavier than chains, and in character when talking about armours, people have always suggested to her a combination of chain and leathers. Secondly, I'm not sure if there's a heavy armor alternative as far as guild armour goes. I've seen a helmet but other than that I'm in the dark. Lastly...I like being able to get up off the ground...Arwenth has this habit of dying randomly and she dies alot less now that she's started being good at flickup again...

Re: Heavy Armours
I just wish there were more of them... and possibly and shoveup command of some sort, makes you a lot more tired than flickup, but can get you up even in plate?

I guess now is an ideal time for adding more ideas to make heavy armours more useful than before.

Re: Heavy Armours
I've considered wearing heavy armours on an alt, but decided against it.
The three reasons i chose were:
- To show during combat
- cant use flickup
- And i think the biggest factor, the protection offered just doesnt seem worth the horrible drawbacks.

Also, I should add, there's no guild plate armour for the Taniels. If there was, I'd probably consider it.

Re: Heavy Armours
Moreso than guilded heavy armor and a heavy armor flickup equivalent, I'd like to see more different tail armors, or at least something we can do with 'em. Tailslap special maybe? One that's not skill-based, so as not to make it overpowered, but possibly useful (if you don't fall down, of course)
