I already started to wonder whether "gaming with the system" is forbidden. It would be pretty peculiar if the ultimate badass would not be allowed to donate to charity because that would affect the karma positively.

IMHO, it does not matter. It's just a matter of taste of how to define it. This is the system we have. It's rather simple and it works..
