Least playable races

Hello,

This is a poll which perhaps helps to get a bit into a discussion.

My main concern is mostly the playability of certain races.

I don't want to write too much about this because it may affect others who vote, but perhaps if you'd like to, pick a race which you find to be inferior or less playable than others and reason why.

The reasoning is especially important in my opinion. I'll state my opinion a bit later. I hope that, if there is some agreement, wizards/admin could look at this eventually and improve the playability of certain races, compared to other races.

Well, I would say darkelves are the least playable mostly due to rp-based restrictions. But then people do have a choice to become a darkelf, and they should know the difficulties before choosing that path. Apart from that, I would say tshaharks have it kind of rough, but they have their advantages as well.

In terms of what you can do in the game, darkelves by far are the least playable.

Definitely darkelf. Anything evil isn't easy.

Quicklings, druegar, orcs, goblins, ogres etc. Because you cant even play them at all.

Darkelves are pretty limited in what you can do with them, but they kick ass if you play them.

I hate tshaharks. Personal preference.

My ice troll character never even made it into the tutorial :(

I lean towards halflings, but probably because Ive never made a serious effort with one... Half-elves have a hard time starting out, like halflings, but they seem to catch up quicker... And no doubt halflings can be very effective eventually, it just seems to take the longest for them...

Yeah, darkelves are limited, but if you've ever fought a darkelf without being a Lumi/Tshahark or at least without having miracles and great GTFO reflexes...
...Well, you don't generally screw with darkelves. And really, they all started as elves, so its not like how they develop early on is even a factor...

So halflings take my vote because they are just a pain to start out (for me)
Granted, it takes a newbie Tshahark a week to hit anything, but it only takes that one hit.

That's not quite true. From what I've been told there was a time when you could
pick darkelf as starting race. Those who did this ended up with a char that had
no skills at all.

Well we aren't talking about 5+ years ago, we're talking about now.

If you know how to make your character, all of the races are equally playable.

Hands down, darkelf is the hardest because:
1. Constantly hunted and killed
2. Restricted from two major towns.

Unless your halfling or tshahark or human or w.e there is nothing harder to play.
If you say its hard to play a different character, its because you are probably not using it correctly. Plus once you get a certain amount of days, then any character can take down an ogre 1v1.

So if you are a halfling, consider your advantages and disadvantages.
Hint: don't hunt armored creatures. Bleeding does lots of damage. Sneaking is a useful skill.

Halflings are awesome. They're not hard unless you assume you can do normal hack and slash and succeed. That said, Gen was pretty insane at melee for a halfling, and Matusalem certainly doesn't suck.

Darkelves are easily the hardest to play because evil in general is hard to play. It can get boring and lonely very quickly. My worst nemesis with Geas has always been apathy - it's what has me take huge breaks so that when I get back I'm excited about something.

Evil is only fun when you're winning, and that means you have to grind for many many days. If I had to be an elf that long, I'm sure I'd commit character suicide before I got anywhere close to performing dark rituals.

Soon... Skeltim will have mastered deflecting... Then... *isn't even halfway*

Apathy :(

I had most fun with Skeltim being evil even though he won very little. Of course, due to my attempts to keep him as responsive as possible, he has changed again after that.

Personally, I find humans least playable of all races. HUMANS? Who wants to be a human, you're human every day.

My pick is, naturally, darkelves too. No other race instantly gives away
its affiliation to Sathonys or Lilith. That is like an open invitation
to conflict. If you contrast this to an "evil" human, at least you can
not be absolutely sure what deity that human worships per se
at a later time for non-clerical characters.

Faith loss - leading to the god:none faction - can happen for humans!

The roleplay you can do at this point as a darkelf, when you enter conflict,
is very, very little at best and highly constrained throughout, extremely cliched too.

Without others to interact with, it will become immensely boring. The little
PvP "interaction" can hardly make up for that in the slightest.

In the past, darkelves could be scribes but that's no longer really possible.

And alchemists, while that may be a possibility in one way or another,
there just isn't any social interaction hotspot for darkelves that
really works. Asador definitely does not work for much at all either.

(Tshaharks and halflings can at least be a lot of fun, although tshaharks
really don't have many choices when it comes to join a guild and halflings
kind of really suck in combat. But it is interesting to see that some
players really love halflings and play most of their time with their
halfling characters.)

Don't forget also the inborn magic resistance of halflings. It's something I often underestimate, and then am like "oh hell yes!" when it matters.
