Booze and whores

Where are actually all the whores in the game? Right now we have Yanna, but she seems very lonely in her trade. I bet she is not serving entire forostar coming through the port by herself.

It would be nice to have more NPC whores, perhaps not in places like Elvandar, but along the roadside inns at least.

In some taverns you can see some rowdy behaviour like groping or trying to grope barmaids.. I assume that is supposed to reflect something about the atmosphere in the place. You could infer that means it is acceptable behaviour on some level and that there are probably some whores elsewhere in the pub which you actually can buy.

I feel like those NPCs would probably best fit in the human towns/villages? I've always thought about it like a human thing, but perhaps half-elves/halflings too? I don't see elves getting into that business.. and tshaharks are probably too wild (would they just rape their "partner" when they feel for it, or is there more like an animalistic mating ritual? does the female get to choose?)? Haven't made up my mind about dwarves. But it seems like they would also have the personality of buying and selling such services. Perhaps imported half-elves..

I have trouble thinking there is a large whoretrade in the Empire. I don't have trouble imagining dwarves engaging in whoretrade, though.

IG there has been mention of the tshahark mating ritual called the "club and cave dance". Wherein the male clubs down the female and drags her to a cave. Supposedly only a male strong enough to club the female down is worth mating with. This was known/mentioned by "everybody" seemingly when I first started playing. (That is, this was the common IC position I came across in my first half-year to year of playing. Then there was a time with rather few tshaharks, and the tshaharks at current seem to be going for a more sophisticated, intelligent type.)

Maybe Arborea could have a full brothel put in.

As to tshahark mating rituals, I'd guess that they'd be influenced by lizard mating behaviour with a touch of the more primal human mating behaviour. Mostly lizards tend to engage in displays rather than violent behaviour (though biting is apparently common), bobbing their head, twirling their legs, opening their mouth wide etc. Also, apparently lizards don't eat or drink a great deal during mating season. If a tshahark is off his boar, chances are you're in :D

Who needs whores when you have Gwennites? :)

I cannot see tshaharks using brothels very much as I cannot really imagine them with regular humanoid genitalia. Instead I see them having both physical aspects of their mating habits and their reproductive cycle coming more from the lizard part while still being influenced(read tormented) by the instincts and urges of the humanoid part. They are imperfect and incomplete creatures cruelly made with magic for war, not for reproduction in mind.

Well, atleast take in it. I would be very interested in having this one detail sorted out as it clearly defines them as either more "human" or more "alien".

Asralites. XD

I would be very surprised if someone would rather bed Zehren than a whore.

Edit. Wrong verb mood. Fix'd.

Adanath I have always roleplayed as one who slept since the insect wars, as such..since he was made (not born with a mother and father), his knowledge of mating rituals *birds and the bees* is relatively little to none, not to mention now that he is older his capacity to change his core formative ideas being a more simply goal minded creature is well dwindling so to say.

For a long time he has asserted that little tshaharks come from caves because that is where he remembers waking up, and seeing little ones. That's about the extent of the complexity on that one.

I always had Skragna being a scribe with dreams of grandeur, when they looked for volunteers to create the 'harks. So he wound up changed, fought for Asral, then Slept. Now that he's awake again, well. I've always played him as not being a complete teetotaler, but certainly never drinking himself to drunkenness. And who needs a harlot when one can simply settle for a good old skull crushing?

I think this would be a nice idea. The question is if there should be random whores in say growling flame, cumberly, bandama? It seems to me like good places for customers.

Most whores, with the exception of Yanna, exist as virtual NPCs. I think that's fine as it is. PCs seem perfectly willing and able to run off to do private bedroom RP all on their own without adding more NPCs to do it with as well.

I am not saying it needs to be possible to do "private bedroom RP" with them :) But it gets perhaps a bit more atmospherical with at least some dummy NPCs. Or even just tavern messages is an improvement in my book. It's not about sex in any way (prostitution = yuck?).. it's about showing the non-fairy tale parts of the world. That is something which really adds depth, in my opinion. Just like slavery or bribery. The feeling that there is a real world with all kinds of flaws and things we do not really want to see or hear about is what makes the world feel real and alive.

Speaking of whores.. Did anyone ever max out their "drinking" skill?

I think at least one dwarf is hard at work at it from what I hear.

That's a character concept right there!: Max drinking skill - take money for drinking more and spend all your time in a tavern telling bad stories.

Code: Select all

SKILL: drinking SKILL: 100 KNOWLEDGE: 100
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This skill indicates how well you can hold your
liquor - that is, how much alcohol you can drink
before your speech becomes slurred, you throw up
on your neighbor's shoes, and fall unconscious.
Dwarves are notoriously good at this skill.

Code: Select all

SKILL: whoring SKILL: 100 KNOWLEDGE: 100
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This skill indicates your ability to frequently visit
brothels without catching transmittaable diseases
or feeling bad about it afterwards. With a high
skill you are able to get better prices, service and
ideas for how to lie to your Mrs when you get home.
Men are notoriously good at this skill.

Code: Select all

SKILL: storytelling SKILL: 100 KNOWLEDGE: 100
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This indicates your ability to tell damned good
stories. Taverns are good story-telling locations.
A good story is more likely to make other people
laugh, cry or show affection. Warning: A bad story
may have negative consequences. People sometimes
become upset or violent if you bore/offend them!
Halflings are notoriously good at this skill.
and then of course..

Code: Select all

SKILL: drinking & whoring SKILL: 100 KNOWLDGE: 100
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This most advanced arts is normally performed by seasoned
crusader crossbowmen who grew tired and bitter from many
years of ungrateful service standing in high towers. The higher
your skill, the better your life is.
Arxthas is notoriously good at this skill.

And there I seriously thought that crusaders are to remain chaste...or is that just to scare off recruits?

Adanath wouldn't know chaste if it hit him in the face.

Don't make me turn crazy and go Redentes on your scaly ass.
