My thoughts as an Elvish Newbie

If it's no bug or an idea, but it's still MUD-related, it goes here.

Of course, I'd have fun writing a guide on what I know  .... but I doubt any of you more experienced players would like me to write one.

I realise I'm a week late on the map, but I have a good excuse!

My tablet broke, but my new (and fancier) one's arriving on Monday. I'll post it sometime next week. :)

Well, I'm going to work on my own combat guide to other newbies in the future. Probably in a few days I will get it done.

One important rule: Do not attack inside of cities. Never attack cityguards!

And do not try to steal from Cityguards as it results in an attack!

Here are some I could think of... I struggled with these as a newbie.

Don't forget to unequip weapons after fighting.

Always appraise.

If elf, never believe your appraise. (but it said I'd probably kill it!)

Appraise is bit tricky and depends what people are wielding for example. Also, even if orcs and black moles appraise as they should die by just looking(or whatever), there are times when even one can give Delia a run for her money, but the main reason could be that with elf con, even if you are really good, you can't really afford to take hits, this also means your opponent has easier time dealing a good crit with a connecting strike, atleast I think so.

A lucky strike can change much in fight, special if your enemy wields a heavy weapon and is very strong. So it it possible he looks like a weak enemy because of his low skills and bad agility.
He will normaly no problem. But then he succeed to hit with his heavy weapon and have the luck to cause the maximum damage ... Ouch!
With suprior luckit will be a hand, that is then cut off!

I love the comments in here. I've been working on the newbie area for years, and I firmly hope that one day I will finish it *looks around shiftily*. These ideas are really useful.

I would also add in the combat guide, along with warnings are meant to be taken seriously, that animals tend to be very strong. If you would worry about taking on a bear in RL, you should consider whether your character can do it in Geas. If you're not a lot stronger in Geas than you are in RL, it's probably a bad idea :D

oh one thing that should be added. if you go into a coastal hut by arborea when you are lost. if you enter and the guy tells you to leave LEAVE. or he will eat you. and if you come back a second time lost and enter. dont. and the third time. dont even ask

One good thing to add too would be that fire is dangerous, flammable items can and do ignite, and then you will BURN.

And do not underestimate poisons and temperature...arctic weather and poison combined makes Delia quite unable to kill an arctic wolf...
