Do you get more experience if you hide and then sneak?

Just wondering if it is better to hide/sneak, then just sneak.

experience

I'm not sure about getting experience from hiding or sneaking, but I have heard that you have a better chance to sneak up on someone or something if you hide first.

if you hide first then sneak, you get good skills in both aspects i think, if you just sneak you get some hide skills but mostly sneak. Also the description of hide has changed, but it used to mention what vurdijak stated.

Well, right now I have never used hide/sneak often, and my hide is just as good as sneak and so is awareness... well, 2 level difference.

So I wondered if it made a difference. :?

Just a thought:

In the middle of sneaking, if you change your aim... it will stop the sneak.

sneak n
You are looking around for a possibility to sneak north.
>
aim at right arm
You abort sneaking.
You will now try to hit the right arm of your opponent.

Do you guys think that should happen?

That seems like it can be avoided by simply waiting... doesn't seem absolutey necessary to change the code to fix that one, IMO.

It's not necessary, but I agree that it isn't intuitive this way.

Delem has trained hide/sneak in his earlier times. And obviously I hid first before I snuck up to someone, since its harder to sneak for a dwarf (with heavy armours too - haa) And my hide was significantly higher than my sneak... About 15 lessons away from each other. So not sure if I was unlucky on getting sneak improvements, or I just got more hide because I got more chances to improve it from hiding first, then sneaking.

Ok

Maby if you hide first, hide will rise higher than sneak.

If you just sneak, hide and sneak will rise at the same pace.

Thanks Delem.

Another question on sneaking.

It seems that you leave tracks when you sneak.

Is that true, and if so, maby it shouldn't be that way?

Its true, except much more difficult to find the tracks. I think it should stay that way. When you sneak you will still leave footprints and should still be able to be tracked.

More difficult?

Alright, that's a good balance. Thanks Rex.

Area lore skills should affect that too, I think.
