Indeed, Oma Haus is "Grandma('s) House", Schlitterbahn is a funny slang for "slide" or "shoot". Braunfels is a German town, the name translates to "brown rock". It must have picked up the additional "s" on the way to Texas.

Oma = grandma/grannyvurdijak wrote:There is a restaurant in New Braunsfels called Oma Haus. I bet thats German for something 'house'. Hmm does Braunsfels or Schlitterbahn mean anything?
Haus = house
Braun = brown
Fels = rock/crag
schlittern = to slide/to slither
Bahn = course/track/lane

Re: New forum
I checked and I am putting the 's' in the middle incorrectly. It is New Braunfels. But strangely, everyone I know pronounces it with the 's' sound in the middle, so thats how I spelled it.
Heh, watch out for the 'brown rock' on the water slide.
